There's a Centipede in My Coffee Mug

This morning I was lucky enough to spot this little guy in my coffee mug. Don't worry, he seems to be unfazed by the dregs of cold coffee. He's maybe three inches long and not nearly as aggressive as the last couple centipedes I have had. I'll try to get a better picture of him before I release him to the wild. Right now all I have is my iPhone camera.

How did he get into my coffee? My only guess is he fell directly down into it from the ceiling.

The Eating Habits of Centipedes

It's a quarter after 2AM and I just posted, but I thought I would write a little about the eating habits of the centipede I caught recently. Unlike the last large centipede I caught, this one didn't run itself to death. It is alive and well and dining quite nicely. I am feeding him fat, juicy crickets.

Anyway, this little beasty is mean! He wraps himself around the crickets with his sharp, mechanical legs and starts biting and tearing. I was watching him do this and realized he has a strategy. He pops the head off and pushes it aside. Then he munches away at all the squishy insides. Every now and then he removes a leg and places it to the side with the head. Man, what a gruesome site!

When I went to turn the container to see the parts better, the centipede reared-up about an inch in the air and raised the giant pointy things on its tail. I could imagine if this thing were bigger...

More Centipedes

At about 3 a.m. on Wednesday I was getting ready to go to bed when I almost stepped on a centipede. Here's a little video:

and here are some pictures:
I finally got a couple good pictures of his fangs:

Centipedes and Toilets

What is it with centipedes and toilets? A few hours ago I found a nice looking centipede in the mens room at Starbucks. I scooped him up into an iced cup. I don't know if those are mandibles sticking out the side of its head, but it looks like this thing could do some damage. It's much more imposing than the house centipede I spotted not too long ago.

Dagon, Saba, and Centipedes

So now it's past 3am. I've spent the last hour searching for information on centipedes. It looks like the little beasty I saw about an hour ago is just a harmless house centipede.

A few minutes ago I did a google search for "centipedes Saba" and made a cool discovery. The third search result was a page in a PDF file. The black centipedes in the PDF are at Mar Saba monastery. Check out the column on the left. It's about Dagon in his watery purgatory.

I think that's all for now, I'm not doing good in the sleep category this week.

Centipedes

It's about 2am and I can't sleep. I just went into the bathroom to brush my teeth. I faced the sink and then noticed movement on the wall to the left of my elbow. I looked at it. It was a centipede!

About an inch and a half and straw colored. It dropped down to the floor and went into the space for the sliding door. He's probably still in there. Damn those things are creepy.

I just went around with a blacklight looking for it and anything else that may appear. I didn't find any crawly things, but I did find something else that's cool... invisible tape is not so invisible with a blacklight. And my pee looks nuclear.
