As I started reading Old Bugs I was very excited. I was thinking Lovecraft had written some supernatural fiction based in a seedy alternate reality Chicago. Lovecraft had written Old Bugs in 1919 when the prohibition had just begun. How was he to know the prohibition (at least the one on alchohol) would be short lived? Old Bugs is set in a shady Chicago pub serving whiskey and hash in 1950! Alas, there's no Yog-Sothothery, visions, or odd dreams in Old Bugs. :(
There's mention of the sons of Belial and a cool Latin quote. Those of you wondering, the Latin is an obligatory salute given by gladiators to Caesar.

Very true, and thanks for the insights and attention shed on this lesser known work of HPL's.
